Verse

I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you (Matthew 17:20).

Tuesday

Today was a fairly laid back day.  Yosef slept all night very soundly.  Josh slept with him on the pull out sofa.  Josh didn’t sleep so great, but Yosef did.  The orphanage told us he wakes up at 6am (not sure if he wakes then or they wake him) but he slept past 7 today.  We went to breakfast in the lobby and he ate a little of this and that.  We had ordered him firfir that comes with injera (Ethiopian breakfast) and he nibbled at it.  He ate a banana and a little of Josh’s pancake.

We came back to the room and got the beach ball.  We went outside to walk around and play.  We kicked the ball and wandered all around.  I got a terrible headache around mid morning and needed to lay down.  I took some medicine and Josh and Yosef played outside and ate lunch.  Yosef took a good nap as did Josh and I.  He did wake up crying from his nap and said “mommy” so I ran over to lay with him and he went back to sleep.

After naps, we went to a local park and playground.  Yosef didn’t play on the equipment much, just walked around and took it all in.  It was probably a sensory overload we realized once we got there.  I don’t think he went outside much at all – basically stayed in two rooms at the orphanage.  So now we are at this giant park, there is a breeze and sunshine, grass and trees, cars driving by and honking, people walking by – just so much to see and experience.  He walked around and carried a water bottle that he has become very attached to.  He’s showing great attachment signs already.  At the park several people walked up and spoke to him and he clung to one of us, which is what we want!  He is doing so great with Josh, it’s wonderful!

We are seeing glimpses of his personality and have seen several smiles today.  Man oh man is he a two year old though.  Into everything!  Tried to climb the entertainment center.  When we tell him no or take something away (only b/c it’s dangerous) he sits down in the floor and cries, hits the floor, just a good old tantrum!  Fun times J   We respond by picking him up and redirecting to something else and so far that has helped tantrums pass super fast.

There is a small dog that lives here named Leo.  She is very sweet although she jumps up.  Yosef is very afraid of her.  Curious, but afraid.  We’ve already been discussing ways to work on this with Scooby when we get home.

We came home from the park and took his first bath, with us.  He was basically wiped off every other day I think at the orphanage.  He didn’t want to sit down which in turn made him a bit cold.  He was crying but I’m quite sure it was more the being cold part than anything.  We made it fast and then lotioned him down very thoroughly!

We cooked him some pasta with butter for dinner here in the kitchen and he loved it.  Josh went to go make it but he wanted to go to, so we all went to the kitchen while he made the pasta.  He and I did walk back and watch them making cheese for a few moments while the pasta was cooking.  Yosef ate it all, drank his milk, and then ate multiple crackers – similar to graham crackers but a little less sweet.  He played for a good while and then we laid him down around 715 for bed.  He rolled around awhile but I lay with him until he went to sleep.   We brought a blanket for him and he is already attaching to it too.  We have it with him whenever he is tired, upset or we go anywhere.  I hope it will become his lovey or his night night as they are called in our household.

Yoftahe (our driver) got take out dinner for us and brought it to the guest house.  It’s so much easier that way with Yosef now.  We had hamburgers, fries and oatmeal cookies after he went to sleep.  The power has been going off and on which apparently is quite normal.  The guest house has a generator which kicked on, however who knows when I’ll get this posted because the internet isn’t working.

Tomorrow we have our Embassy appointment at 9am.  Basically it’s a short interview to get Yosef’s visa but it won’t be ready to pick up until Friday.  Another family is staying here now too that adopted two kids.  Josh talked to them tonight in the lobby as they had their Embassy appointment today.

He has been making lots more sounds and babbling today.  He has even repeated a few words we have said.  We don’t know if the babbling is Amharic or just babbling.  He did lots of sounds while Josh was reading him a bedtime story.
