Verse

I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you (Matthew 17:20).

Beach trip

We just got back from our family beach trip and while we were there I observed three different families.  All three families appeared to be multiracial which intrigues me greatly, since we will eventually be one too.  I observed (what seemed to be) were white parents with a black, younger child.  Two of the families had other white children running around while the third didn't appear to have any other kids.

I found myself wanting to go up and ask them and talk to them all about their adoption journey to learn as much as a could.  But I stopped myself because I was unsure of how to approach the subject in a way that wouldn't cause them to bristle.  Initially I wanted to say "is your son adopted?"  But that seems like an idiotic question....white parents, black child...probably so.  BUT there could be other things I don't know.  So out of not knowing how to appropriate phrase and address the issue...I didn't.

My hope that is once our child arrives, if someone approaches me in the same frame of mind that I had last week....genuinely wanting to know and learn, that I will be positive in my response regardless of how their question comes out.
