We immediately began work on the application the day we got it. While there was a lot of paperwork to fill out and collect, the largest hold up was the money. We had our application ready to mail within a month, but we didn't mail it until the first of October because we had to wait on a check.
We also worked diligently on our dossier (basically a REALLY official group of paperwork that gets sent to Ethiopia after it's authenticated 4 times!). Each piece of paper has to be notarize by a local notary, the clerk of court, and the US department of state as well as the Embassy/Consulate of Ethiopia. That is entirely complete also except that we need our homestudy and a letter from the US Bureau of Citzenship and Immigration Services (can't have that until we do the homestudy).
